Canine Chemo and Doggie Stitches

The last few days Zoey has been very perky. She has been carrying around an "AKC Classic Plush Squirrel" that her grandma gave her. She buries it, then unburies it over and over. She sleeps next to it. It is precious and funny. Until....

...Zeke sneaks away with it and performs surgery to "de-squeak" the critter. Both Zeke and Zoey love to regularly perform de-squeak surgery. There is frequently fluffy plush critter guts all over our yard and house. Squirrel is special and has been able to avoid the procedure, until yesterday. I can't be certain it was Zeke, but that is my suspicion. Zoey carried on as thought nothing had happened. She continued to love her little Squirrel.

I woke up to vicious dog fight noises at 5:00 this morning. I lurched out of bed and ran downstairs. I wondered how a vicious dog got into my yard. I hoped it wasn't hurting my sick little Zoey. Zeke was standing quietly inside and Zoey was out on the deck whimpering and standing guard over Squirrel. Zoey never whimpers. Zeke always whimpers. This was strange. Tony and I examined Zoey. She seemed okay....just a little shaken.

Zeke, on the other hand, was licking a wound on his leg. There was a puncture wound about 1/3 of an inch long. Neither dog would tell us what happened, but I assume Zeke tried to take Squirrel away from Zoey and she wasn't happy about it. Turns out Zoey was the vicious dog in my yard.

This morning, while Zoey was getting her third chemo treatment, Zeke had to get two shots, have the area shaved and received one stitch in the wound.

We went to Petsmart and bought another toy.
